Shuttle service to the Au Pair Academy
Au pairs arriving will not need to pay transfer fee upon arrival, they will have pre-paid this transportation fee as part of the program fee charged by AuPairCare.
A reservation has been made and confirmed for each au pair. They will always have a shuttle booked for them even in the event their flight is delayed. Upon arrival, au pairs should go directly to the arrival area, where they will be met by an Olympic Airporter greeter driving a bus or van wearing an AuPairCare t-shirt. If au pairs arrive to the airport and do not see a greeter or Olympic Airporter personnel waiting, they should go directly to the airport Ground Transportation counter. There will be a complimentary transportation phone where they can dial 22 and be connected directly to Olympic Airporter dispatch. Au pairs may also contact Olympic Airporter via public phone or cellular phone at 800-822-9797 and state "AuPairCare” for pickup.
Au pairs should never accept rides from any other transportation company. If for some reason they are unable to contact the designated shuttle company, or if they will be delayed or have a problem, please contact the Sheraton Hotel at the 1-201-896-0500 and ask to speak to Ms. Tracye Warfield, AuPairCare Orientation Director. You may also call the Au Pair Services Department at AuPairCare’s San Francisco headquarters’ office at 1-800-428-7247.
Baggage Policy
Some au pairs are still surprised to find that U.S. airline carriers are charging them to check-in their baggage. Many of these au pairs are unable to pay these fees and have become very distraught at the thought of having to leave their bags behind to board their flight. Being faced with such an issue is a poor experience for anyone, but it’s especially burdensome for au pairs starting out their program year abroad.
Most airlines are charging $15 USD for the first bag, $25 for the 2nd bag, and $100 for each overweight bag. On average au pairs should expect to pay $140 to $240 for checked items for their flight from the Au Pair Academy to their host family’s home. Please advise your participants to contact your airline directly to inquire about their current luggage fee structure.
Au pairs should be encouraged to pack as lightly as possible for their time abroad. Thank you!
